Is Fallout: New Vegas a completely new game in the franchise or more like a lengthy expansion?

I have looked up this game online and from what I gathered, Bethesda has plans to make Fallout 4 somewhere down the line, if they haven't already started doing so.



What is New Vegas, then?



Is it akin to the Shivering Isles of Oblivion in the sense that it's not a full sequel?Is Fallout: New Vegas a completely new game in the franchise or more like a lengthy expansion?
It is a brand new storyline that should start and end in that one simple game. Just about every fallout game has begun and ended in the same game for a new story to come in the next one. If you havn't already looked at the story line or know what it's about....... You are delivering messages between factions and why you go to deliver an important one somebody comes kills you, then leaves you there. With that a robot (can't remember the name) comes to save you where his master fix's you up and then you are on a quest to go find who killed you and why.
Well to be honest if you really wish to know you should look for The Vault it's a Wiki page that tells you most anything about the game the devolpers and how the games tie into one another. It so detailed it can tell you exactly what the hidden skill Nerve from fallout New Vegas is and does.

I don't even think Bethesda evern tried working in this game, I mean look at Sega in 2006 when they launched Sonic 06. I mean it's completly glitched out and uncomplete. New Vegas isn't a direct sequel to Fallout 3, I think of it as an expansion pack. Still played it all though........

though bethesda has the rights to fallout they have contracted a developer named obisdian entertainment to create fallout new vegas. fallout new vegas is based off the same engine as fallout 3, albeit a heavily upgraded version. the map is larger in scope then fallout 3 and the story does not in any way relate to fallout 3. and no it isnt an expansion, i mean how many expansions do you know that have taken the better part of two years to make
It's a completely new game and I found some exclusive videos on the gameplay so you can decide if you want to get it.
It's a spin-off of sorts. Completely new game.

It's not an expansion, it's not a sequel, and it doesn't particularly follow the main story as Fallout 4 will.
its all new and more in-depth.

now you do have to worry about, eating, drinking, sleeping.... all basic human needs have to be taken care of.
It's a different story line.
