How do I switch to using a controller in Fallout New Vegas for PC?

I just bought Fallout New Vegas for windows vista. How do I switch to using a controller instead of the keyboard?How do I switch to using a controller in Fallout New Vegas for PC?
You need the USB adapter and a xbox wireless controller or a wired one plugged into the usb port.
